The South Downs Planetarium and Science Centre in Chichester is a Registered Educational Charity focused on science education for all. Visitors can learn about Astronomy, Associated Sciences, Space Exploration and the beauty of the night sky in our 96 seat Dome. The organisation is run by a dedicated team of Volunteers and welcomes over 16,000 visitors each year from schools, universities and the general public to our Public Shows. Our aim is to bring the wonders of the Universe to all ages from 6 to 106 years old.

What skills do I need?

Our Volunteers come from all different backgrounds and it is not necessary for new Volunteers to have knowledge in Astronomy. There are a number of practical ways that you can be involved including... Supporting the learning during our School and Student visits. Welcoming the public to our Public Shows. Administration & Practical duties. Technical and Engineering support. The Planetarium is a very busy and exciting environment with an opportunity to learn and share knowledge with our visitors. Our volunteers usually work around 5 hours on a regular basis once a week, but this can be flexible.
