Food and eating together is an important part of the Young Adult Carers (those unpaid carers who we support from the ages of 16 -24) experience when they attend sessions at the centre. With more funding to provide hot meals we are seeking a volunteer who can help prepare healthy meals for around 15 young adults in each session. We have a fully equipped kitchen at the centre. This role would ideally suit someone with previous experience in catering looking to make a difference for families and unpaid carers in Blackpool or someone with the qualifications and skills who would like to build experience for career development.

What skills do I need?

Essential

  • To be able to take the lead on preparing food for each session, ability to cook for large numbers.
  • Understanding of food hygiene and safety.
  • To be able to help the staff team plan meals and shopping lists in advance
  • To be able to accommodate additional dietary and allergy requirements.
  • Able to work as a team with other volunteers and staff
  • To be responsible for cleaning the kitchen after the session

Desirable

  • Previous catering experience, ideally with a Level 2 in Food Hygiene however this qualification can be provided.
  • To be able to consult with young people on menu choices.
