VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Support people seeking asylum and refugees in your communities

Volunteers work in a variety of ways including:

 Basic case work on Asylum Support (but not immigration unless training is undertaken)

 Casework notes computer data input

 Organising events; fund raising.

 Weekly telephone check-ins

 Helping with registration for ESOL classes, guiding on completing required applications forms, get consent form signed, help with GP registration, support with school issues.

 Some of the volunteer roles need a regular commitment each week, often one day a week but times can vary depending on the volunteer role. Others are less regular such as helping with Refugee Week

All volunteers receive induction training and ongoing support with further training opportunities offered as needed for different roles. Please note that some roles require a DBS check to fulfil safeguarding criteria.

We are seeking volunteers across who can support those seeking asylum. Please get in contact if you would be interested in getting involved. If you have 1 day a week to spare, we love to hear from you.

Every day is different in a life of someone seeking asylum. Cases that need your support will be different every day.

What skills do I need?

 excellent administration and organisational skills

 IT proficiency including ability to use excel, word and a database (if no experience with database, training will be provided)

 the ability to maintain confidentiality and work within guidelines

 communication skills including good written and spoken English - clear and confident telephone manner

 empathy at all times

 have a good understanding on what those seeking asylum and refugees faces

 you have a good understanding of the support systems in place for those seeking asylum, refused asylum seekers, those with no recourse to public funds

 you have a good understanding of case working, notes taking, database management

 you are a good communicator in general

 you can work with people who first language is not English

 you can work with interpreters

 you understand the different background of our clientele group

 you understand confidentiality, data protection, and when to share information

 You have a broad knowledge of the support systems, the NHS, the local council, public transports, GP services, schools, and all different organisations around your local area.

 You are good at working as part of a team

 You have an excellent ability to stay calm and tactful under pressure and support those that has traumatic experiences

 You are self-motivated

 You have a bright and positive attitude

 You are or will be commitment to the mission and values of Asylum Seekers and Refugee Support Sanctuary CIC

Use your language skills

Offer interpreting and translation support in the following languages, Farsi, Kurdish Sorani, Arabic, Tigrinia, Urdu, Persian
