We help hundreds of thousands of children, young people, parents and carers via our 800+ services across the UK.

Our amazing team of vibrant & diverse volunteers aged 14+ helps us run over 600 shops. Our stores sell lots of great donated & new goods to help raise vital funds to make a real difference to disadvantaged children, young people and families across the UK.

Our retail stores are the face of our charity on the high-street and in local communities. We have loads of amazing stock donated to us every week, and this all needs to be sorted, tagged and put on the shop-floor for sale!

Our retail shops are the face of our charity on the high-street and in local communities. As a Specialist Department Volunteer you will have a lead role within a specific department chatting to and assisting customers. Additionally you will have responsibility for keeping the department clean and tidy and eye catching to encourage customer participation.

It would be great if you could volunteer one shift a week (or even more if you want) but we’re always happy to be flexible to work around your availability.

What you will be doing: Lead your department, by keeping it well-stocked and liaise with other volunteers to assist with this Maintain a high level of customer service Liaise with store staff to manage any issues or queries that may arise Support the implementation of seasonal campaigns and promotional activities in-line with the stores marketing activity plan Ensuring the store remains clean and tidy Ensure all health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to Ensure all security procedures are adhered to

What skills do I need?

The skills you need: Friendly and helpful Happy to be part of an amazing team of staff and volunteers Enthusiastic about the work of Barnardo’s Excellent customer service skills Good verbal communication skills and able to engage positively with customers Willingness to learn basic IT skills, for tasks such as working on the till Problem-solving abilities to help resolve queries and issues Ability to work independently, as part of a team and use your initiative
