We’re on the lookout for passionate, driven Trustees and a new Chair of Trustees to join our Board at an exciting moment in BPT’s story.
BPT exists to redistribute cultural power and authorship. We bring people together not just to participate in theatre, but to own it: to shape stories, lead creative decisions, and build cultural infrastructure in their communities. Our Board is central to that mission; stewarding our values, steering our work, and advocating for a theatre landscape that is genuinely diverse, inclusive, and shaped by everyone.
BPT is at an important moment in its evolution. Over the next three years (2026–2029), we are sharpening how we define and communicate the significance of our work, not changing what we do, but making its full depth and impact more visible.
We understand our work as 'Co-creating cultural infrastructure that shifts who creates, owns and leads theatre.'
This positions BPT not only as a theatre company, but as a builder of new cultural systems.
Making a Tangible Difference: The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a charity that acts as a builder of new cultural systems. Trustees have a direct hand in shifting who creates, owns, and leads theatre, specifically by developing creative agency in underrepresented communities and addressing structural inequities in the arts.
Professional and Leadership Development: Serving as a Trustee provides high-level experience in cultural leadership and governance. It allows people to use their existing professional skills (such as in finance, law, or community engagement) in a new, challenging context while gaining experience in strategic oversight and non-executive leadership.
Community Connection and Personal Fulfilment: The opportunity allows individuals passionate about the arts and social justice to connect deeply with the Brighton community. It offers the chance to work alongside a committed board and staff to ensure the organisation remains reflective of the diverse people it serves, fostering personal growth through community engagement.
We want to be upfront about what the role involves so you can decide if it's the right fit for you.
We are keen to recruit Trustees with any of the following areas of sector experience:
