Assisting in our Christmas Tree Collections in January 2027. This is a fundraising event that we hold every year in which residents under our catchment area* can register their real Christmas trees for collection and recycling. Our team of volunteers will assemble Monday 11th, Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th January to follow set routes for tree collecting. All trees are then recycled into woodchippings. We utilise a central drop-off/chipping point in Ditchling (BN6 8TN).

Volunteers could either have access to a van (ideally large/luton size) which they can drive to complete trees route/s and deliver to the chipping point or otherwise sign up to drive a hired van or join van drivers to assist the collecting. Each van crew will have at least one driver and one passenger. Full safety briefing given.

*this includes areas such as: Chichester; Bognor Regis; Littlehampton; Worthing; Angmering; Southwick; Hove; Brighton; Peavehaven; Newhaven

Benefits

1) A great opportunity to do something community-driven and eco-minded so early in the year. We always enjoy spending these couple of days in January out in the field doing something useful for local residents.

2) Full training on how to use the webapp (where the tree collection routes are stored, allowing for easy, seamless travel between stops) as well as safety briefing and PPE provided

3) The knowledge that you will be helping a locally-based charity working to help people struggling with the loss of loved ones. The Christmas period is a particularly difficult time when grieving, and we want to make our presence more known around then.

Practical Considerations

Our central drop-off point for the Christmas Trees is at the Oaks Poultry Farm, Common Lane, Ditchling, BN6 8TN. Depending on what they would like to do with us, volunteers can either start at the farm and go on to join a van team or else complete their tree route and then finish off at the farm. Parking is available at the farm also from 8am.

Support Disabled

Everybody is welcome to join us as a volunteer. Unfortunately due to the size of our operation and capacity this role has not been fully optimised to fully cater to additional support needs.

What skills do I need?

For those wishing to drive their own van or a hired one you should have:

- A Full UK driving license

For those interested in assisting in tree collections:

- A good state of physical health/strength (this role may require lifting and carrying Christmas Trees on and off a van)

- (Desirable, but not essential) Experience taking part in a charity fundraiser.
