FareShare Sussex & Surrey is a charity project that redistributes surplus food from a busy warehouse in Moulsecoomb, Brighton, to a broad range of different smaller charitable organisations across communities in Sussex and Surrey. Although independently funded, we are part of a national network of regional centres working to alleviate food poverty and reduce food waste across the UK. Our support reaches 25,000 people each week.

This role involves:

  •  Driving a FareShare Sussex & Surrey branded van that delivers food to our member organisations
  •  Collecting food from suppliers
  •  Carrying out comprehensive vehicle checks before and after each shift
  •  Loading and unloading deliveries
  •  Providing a high level of customer service to our member organisations
  •  Representing FareShare out in the community.

Benefits

  • A fun and sociable role, meeting people from a cross section of society.
  • Vital and rewarding work, providing emergency food to the most vulnerable in our communities.
  • Opportunities to expand the role - become a lead volunteer, learn kitchen skills, ride our e-cargo bike, gain office skills or gain fork lift certification.

Practical Considerations

Practical considerations

The FareShare Sussex warehouse is based in Moulsecoomb and all driver shifts begin here. It is easily accessible by bus on the 25, 28, 29 and 50 (Moulsecoomb Way bus stop) or 10-15 minute walk from Moulsecoomb train station.

Support Disabled

The site is not suitable for wheelchair users as there is no lift to the office space and the warehouse work is quite physical. We can support volunteers with additional support needs.

What skills do I need?

This role requires:

  •  A full clean licence
  •  Volunteers to be 25 or over
  •  A full DBS check
  •  Punctuality and good time-keeping skills
  •  A commitment of one shift per week
  •  Good people skills
  •  Ability to work well in a team.
