As a Volunteer Instructor with Hove and Adur Sea Cadets, you’ll be part of a friendly and committed team helping young people aged 10–18 develop skills, confidence and resilience through fun, structured activities.

You’ll support and lead sessions in one or more of the following areas (depending on your skills and interests):

  • Watersports such as dinghy and keelboat sailing, rowing, powerboating kayaking, and paddleboarding.
  • Fieldcraft and Adventure Training, including navigation, bushcraft and expedition skills
  • Target shooting, following safe and structured training
  • Leadership & Team Building, helping cadets build communication, responsibility and problem-solving skills.
  • Supporting general evening activities, including drills, games, badge work and uniform preparation.

You don’t need prior military or maritime experience.

Benefits

  • Training and Qualifications – Access to nationally recognised courses (e.g. RYA, British Canoeing, First Aid, Safeguarding) to build your skills and confidence
  • Fun, Friendship and Team Spirit – Be part of a welcoming, supportive volunteer team and enjoy shared activities, events and socials
  • Rewarding Experience – Make a real difference to young people’s lives while gaining experience in youth development, leadership and outdoor adventure.

Practical Considerations

Public Transport: The Drill Hall and Lizard Hubs are easily accessible by local bus routes.

Access: The Drill Hall has step-free access; please contact us to discuss any specific accessibility needs.

Flexible Volunteering: You don’t need to commit to every session – many volunteers join us once a week or help out on occasional weekends. We’ll work with your availability.
