This structured voluntary role will support Rockinghorse’s Wellbeing Service, which exists to help children and families with their mental health and wellbeing during hospital treatment. This innovative service organises activities and workshops for patients of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton and finds creative ways to support the wellbeing of parents, carers & staff. Volunteer roles with  Rockinghorse are unpaid, though reasonable expenses will be reimbursed upon request.

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support for the Wellbeing Service.
  • Coordinate room bookings, wellbeing sessions, workshops and events.
  • Organise staff lunches & liaise with caterers and external partners.
  • Support psychosocial projects, volunteers and artist visits.
  • Create and update flyers, booking forms, online forms and databases.
  • Manage schedules for the Oasis Room and Sensory Garden.
  • Monitor the shared admin inbox and maintain service records.
  • Audit & maintain supplies for wellbeing.

Benefits

How you’ll make an impact:

By supporting the administration and coordination of thoughtful activities, creative wellbeing sessions and staff care initiatives, you’ll help us in our mission to improve the hospital experience for children, families and healthcare professionals - bringing comfort, care and connection when it matters most.

Practical Considerations

Recruitment process:

  • Informal interview with our Volunteer Coordinator, Holly Lloyd Williams
  • DBS checkmay become necessary for some elements of the role.

Training and support:

  • Successful applicants will be provided with role-specific training and a tour of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital.
  • Wellbeing Service Administrators will have regular contact with our Wellbeing Service team, and a monthly in-person supervision session with Wellbeing Service Manager, Jess Linton

* If the role ends up requiring more hospital presence than we anticipate at this stage, Administrators may be asked to undergo a more comprehensive onboarding process, as mandated by the NHS Trust (online training, enhanced DBS check, referencing and Occupational Health assessment).

What skills do I need?

Wellbeing Service Administrators:

  • Can demonstrate a good understanding of the wellbeing space, including working in a sensitive and trauma-informed environment
  • Bring at least two years’ experience of working in a fast-paced, administrative role
  • Are friendly, confident and personable, and can adapt to diverse settings and situations
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Are used to operating within robust privacy and confidentiality parameters
  • Have a good understanding of the charity’s work and impact .

Where and when?
We are seeking volunteers who can commit to a regular routine of at least one day per week to support the coordination of the Wellbeing Service's activities and events. The role is based at the Rockinghorse office in central Brighton, acting as a key link between the office, hospital and community services. Working hours are flexible and will be arranged around volunteer availability and service needs.
