At SeeAbility we specialise in supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, who may also have sight loss, to realise their goals each and every day. We encourage people with disabilities to challenge what they expect from life, from themselves and from wider society.

Registered as The Royal School for the Blind, SeeAbility is one of the oldest disability charities in the UK and has pioneered specialist support for over 220 years.

You will play an important role by providing companionship to someone we support and spending time with them doing activities  they enjoy within their homes.  These might include chatting over a cup of tea, reading books, playing board games, helping them use the computer etc.

If you are willing to go out and about, you might also help support one of our residents or a group of residents, with activities such as going for a walk to a café or the pub, going to the gym, attending a concert or another event of mutual interest.

You don't need to make a big commitment. Just few hours a month would be fantastic. The date and times you visit is flexible, but we are looking for someone willing to make a regular commitment. It can make a real difference to the lives of the people we support and can be a very rewarding experience.

We are unfortunately unable to recruit volunteers under 18 at this time.

What skills do I need?

· To be kind and friendly.

· To be empathetic and patient.

· To have a good sense of humour and love to chat.

To ensure the safety of the people we support, we require a DBS check and two satisfactory references before a volunteer role is confirmed. As you will be volunteering directly with vulnerable individuals, you will also be required to undertake safeguarding training, as well as any training which is specific to the role
