JOB TITLE: Volunteer Driver
REPORTS TO: Depot Manager
SUMMARY
We are looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to help us provide vital community transport services across West Sussex. No two days are the same! Whether you are driving someone to a medical appointment, a social club or just helping them stay connected - you'll be making a real impact.
MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
• To supply transport to the elderly, vulnerable, disabled and those who suffer from social exclusion and cannot access public transport in the Crawley urban area.
• To take people to local shops, doctors' surgeries, medical and health appointments, and Day Centres such as Age UK.
• To supply transport to local community groups and assist with school runs for students' special needs schools and Local Community Group hire.
• This role can expect some journey requests that are outside the Crawley area e.g. East Surrey, Queen Victoria & Horsham Hospitals. Currently we are taking people to the Covid Vaccination Hubs who are unable to access mainstream transport.
• Some passengers have folding mobility aids which should be stored in private vehicle boot space.
• Patience and understanding towards the people you are transporting who may have hidden disabilities – Sussex Community Transport is an equal opportunities employer and also provides their service irrespective of protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.
• Volunteer drivers must be over 21 years old and have at least two years driving experience with a full driving licence.
• Volunteer drivers will be asked to provide their original driving license and insurance certificate to be copied and held on file.
• You will be required to take a DBS Check (which we will pay for) and complete a small amount of driver training.
• Vehicles will be checked for road worthiness and compliance with DVLA guidelines.
• Should you volunteer as a Minibus driver, you must hold a D1 licence/Midas Training
This could fit in flexibly around your busy day. Full training will be provided. You will meet new people and be part of a great team.
