Join Our Community Café Volunteer Team and Make a Difference!

Are you someone who loves connecting with people and creating a welcoming environment? We are looking for enthusiastic, friendly, and approachable volunteers to be part of our vibrant Community Café team every Monday morning.

Our café is more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee—it’s a lifeline for many. It serves as a warm, inviting space for older and vulnerable members of the community to come together, share stories, and find support. For others, it's a welcoming spot to relax, make new friends, and enjoy the company of others. By volunteering with us, you will play a vital role in fostering a sense of belonging and connection in our community.

What you'll be doing:

As a Community Café volunteer, you'll have the rewarding opportunity to:

  • Set the stage – Help create a warm and comfortable space by setting up tables and chairs to ensure a welcoming environment.
  • Greet and connect – Be the first friendly face that newcomers see, making sure they feel at ease and part of the community from the moment they arrive.
  • Serve with a smile – Assist with preparing and serving hot drinks, helping visitors relax and enjoy their time at the café.
  • Provide support – Act as a key point of contact, offering helpful information and sign-posting guests to local services and resources (with full support from our team, so you’re never alone!).
  • Wrap it up – At the end of the café session, you’ll assist with packing down the space, leaving it ready for the next event.

Why volunteer with us?

  • Make a real difference – Your involvement will directly impact the lives of local residents, offering them much-needed social interaction and support.
  • Be part of a team – You'll work alongside a fantastic group of volunteers and staff who are passionate about building a stronger community.
  • Learn new skills – Whether it's improving your communication abilities, learning more about local support services, or gaining experience in hospitality, this role offers plenty of opportunities for growth.
  • Flexible support – You won’t be doing this alone! Our dedicated staff will be on hand to assist whenever needed, ensuring you feel confident and supported in your role.

If you're someone who values connection, enjoys meeting new people, and wants to give back to your community, this volunteer role is perfect for you. A small amount of your time can make a world of difference!

What skills do I need?

Skills Required for the Community Café Volunteer Role

To succeed in this volunteer role, we’re looking for individuals who possess the following qualities and skills:

  • Friendly and Approachable: You’ll be the welcoming face of our café, helping everyone feel comfortable and included. A positive attitude and a genuine desire to connect with others are essential.
  • Good Communication Skills: You should feel confident engaging in conversations with a wide variety of people. Listening carefully to guests and making them feel heard and valued is a big part of this role.
  • Team Player: You’ll be working alongside other volunteers and staff, so the ability to collaborate and support each other is key to ensuring the café runs smoothly.
  • Empathy and Understanding: Many of our guests may be older or vulnerable, and it’s important to be patient, compassionate, and sensitive to their needs.
  • Reliability and Punctuality: We depend on our volunteers to create a welcoming environment, so being dependable and arriving on time is crucial to the success of our café.
  • Basic Organisational Skills: From setting up tables and chairs to helping with drinks and clean-up, having a sense of order and attention to detail will help the café run efficiently.
  • Willingness to Learn: You don’t need prior experience, but a desire to learn new things and be open to guidance will help you thrive in this role. Full support and training will be provided.
