Health and Care Trustee

We're looking for a Health and Care Trustee to join our Board and help shape the future of our charity.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior health and care leader who wants to use their experience to influence strategy, strengthen governance and improve outcomes for the people we support.

As our Health and Care Trustee, you'll provide strategic oversight and independent challenge on health and care matters, helping to ensure our services remain safe, effective, person-centred and continuously improving.

Working alongside fellow Trustees and our Executive Team, you'll contribute to the long-term direction of Hamelin, supporting the charity as it continues to develop high-quality services and respond to the changing health and social care landscape.

What you'll do

•             Provide strategic oversight of health and care quality, safety, safeguarding and governance.

•             Support the Board in shaping Hamelin's long-term health and care strategy.

•             Offer independent advice on health and care regulation, inspection frameworks and emerging  sector developments.

•             Serve as the Chair of the Board's Care Committee, providing assurance on quality, governance and service improvement.

•             Support and constructively challenge the Executive Team to drive continuous improvement.

•             Champion safe, high-quality, person-centred care across the charity

About you:

We're looking for someone with significant senior leadership experience within the health and/or care sector.

You may be a Director, Executive, Partner, Clinical Leader or have held an equivalent senior leadership position within the NHS, social care, independent healthcare or the voluntary sector.

You'll bring:

•             Significant experience of leading health and/or care services at a senior level.

•             Expertise in quality, safety, safeguarding, governance and service improvement.

•             Knowledge of health and care regulation, CQC inspection frameworks and Integrated Care Systems.

•             The ability to think strategically, ask insightful questions and provide constructive challenge.

•             Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

•             A commitment to inclusion, collaboration and improving the lives of autistic people and individuals with learning disabilities.

Previous Trustee experience isn't essential. We're looking for someone who shares our values and wants to use their knowledge and experience to make a meaningful contribution.

What skills do I need?

Essential:

• Significant senior leadership experience within the health and/or care sector.
• Experience gained at Director, Executive, Partner, Clinical Leader or equivalent senior leadership level
• Awareness and understanding of learning disabilities and/or autism.
• Strong knowledge and experience of quality, safety, safeguarding, governance and continuous service improvement within health and/or care services
• Knowledge and understanding of health and care regulation, Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection frameworks and Integrated Care Systems (ICSs).
• Ensure all decisions are made in the best interests of the charity
• Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good independent judgement and work effectively as a Board member
• A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
• Enthusiasm for the charity's mission, vision and values
• Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and with a broad range of people
• Be committed to Nolan's Seven Principles of Public Life – selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership

Other Desirable Skills and Experience:

• Community development
• Understanding of statutory organisations
• Understanding of legal matters, especially relating to charity and company law.
• Recruitment and personnel management, including a knowledge of employment law
• Fundraising – Hamelin is continuing to develop its fundraising strategy to diversify its funding base
