Active with Parkinson’s Cambs (AWPC) is looking for voluntary class assistants to join our team regularly supporting participants at either of our two 1 hour classes a week.

We provide weekly specialised exercise classes to nearly 130 people with Parkinson’s in venues in South Cambs (Shelford Rugby Club and Jubilee Pavilion, Stapleford) and NW Essex (Newport Village Hall). 

Under the guidance and instruction of our Instructor, the role of Class Assistant is vitally important in ensuring we create a friendly, welcoming, professional and safe environment for our participants. 

Tasks to include:

  • Provide friendly and welcoming support within class.
  • Walk the floor to ensure equipment safely stowed underneath chairs.
  • Ensure participants provided with drink if needed.
  • Provide reminder to take medication.
  • Complete register, ensure Paul sign off, submit on “Paul and Class Assistants” WhatsApp group.
  • Ensure correct placement of equipment - such as resistance bands and grip position of weights.
  • Assist participants with movement and exercise regime under the direction and guidance of instructor.
  • Help set up and put away chairs, tables and class equipment.
  • Willingness to commit to regular weekly attendance.

What skills do I need?

Kind, caring, enthusiastic, observant, willingness to be proactive and get involved.

Ideally basic knowledge, awareness and understanding of Parkinson’s symptoms and the limitations that can cause.
