We are looking for enthusiastic and supportive volunteers to work with young people in schools (aged 12–18) to help them design and deliver their own student-led social action projects. These projects aim to help students make a real difference in their communities while building their confidence, leadership, and teamwork skills.

As a Schools Social Action Project volunteer, you’ll work with teachers to guide small groups of students through a co-design process – helping them identify issues they care about, brainstorm solutions, and plan practical actions. You’ll act as a facilitator, creating a safe and inclusive environment where every voice is heard.

Role Description

Key Tasks:

Each school has 2 volunteers who are jointly responsible for facilitating creative workshops and planning sessions (normally 3 or 4 during the academic year) using participatory methods and using the EPF framework. The workshops will….

  • Help students develop project ideas into realistic, achievable action plans
  • Encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and reflective learning
  • Help students deliver events at which the social actions will come alive

The volunteers will work closely with teachers and school staff to ensure sessions…..

  • Align with school priorities, timetables, and behaviour expectations
  • Follow school safeguarding and conduct policies at all times
  • Maintain clear and respectful communication with school staff to support a smooth and positive experience for students
  • Provide encouragement, structure, and guidance throughout the project lifecycle

At the end of the academic year the volunteers will work with a film crew to curate a short documentary style video that captures the essence of the social actions the students have designed and delivered.

What skills do I need?

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience of designing and running workshops that help participants to co-develop ideas and initiatives. These may have been in a training or problem solving setting.
  • Reliable, patient, and flexible because the workshops have to fit in with a school timetable
  • Keen interest in empowering young people and promoting student voice
  • Good communication, listening, and facilitation skills
  • Experience of working with young people is helpful but not essential
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with school staff
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusivity
