Could you spare a little time to help young people get more out of life?

We’re looking for enthusiastic, friendly people to join our Scout volunteer team and help create brilliant experiences for young people aged 10½–14.

You don’t need to have been a Scout, you don’t need to know how to tie every knot, and you certainly don’t need to be an expert in camping!

What matters most is that you enjoy working with young people, are willing to get involved, and would like to help them grow in confidence, try new things and develop skills for life.

What might you be doing?

One week you could be helping with a game or challenge; another you might be cooking outdoors, helping young people learn a new skill, heading out on an adventure or joining us around a campfire.

You’ll be part of a team, so you won’t be expected to do everything yourself. Our volunteers work together to plan and deliver a varied programme of activities – and there’s plenty of opportunity to bring your own interests, ideas and life experience to the mix.

What do you need?

Enthusiasm, a sense of humour and a willingness to have a go are far more important than previous Scouting experience.

We’re particularly looking for people who:

  • Enjoy encouraging and supporting young people aged 10½–14
  • Are happy working as part of a friendly team
  • Are willing to learn new things
  • Can be a positive role model
  • Want to have some fun while doing something genuinely worthwhile

Training and support are provided, including all relevant required training.

When?

Our Scouts currently meet on Friday evenings. There are also occasional camps, trips and activities at other times.

Why volunteer?

Because volunteering with Scouts isn't just about what you can give.

It’s a chance to meet people, learn new skills, share the things you love, try things you might never otherwise do – and know that your time is helping young people become more confident, capable and independent.

You don't have to be Bear Grylls. You just have to be willing to get involved.

Interested?

Come and meet us, see what we do and find out whether it could be for you.u.

What skills do I need?

  • Ability to communicate with young people aged 10.5 - 14/14.5.
  • Life skills are more important than any specific or particular skills.
  • It's not necessary to have been a Scout previously.
  • Most important is the desire to learn new skills, have fun and be a role model for the young people in the Scout Troop.
