St Peters Church are looking for volunteer board members to assist in the management of the two community businesses run by St Peter’s Church, the Discovery charity shop and Café 46. The board member will attend meetings of the Business Board, advising the board on all matters but with the possibility of taking on specific areas of responsibility as needed. The expectation is that most board decisions will be reached by consensus, but the board member will be able to vote on proposals if necessary.

The volunteer should support the Christian values of St Peter’s Church and be committed to the delivery of the Christian mission of St Peter’s Church and the community outreach objectives of the St Peter’s businesses.

General Duties:

• Provide expertise and advice to the Business Managers and the rest of the Board on retail, catering or other commercial matters.
• Attend Business Board meetings once a month, or as required by the chair, the business managers.
•  Work collaboratively with the other parts of the St Peter’s Church organisation.
•  As a member of the Business Board, be responsible for ensuring the successful commercial operation of the St Peter’s businesses, generating sufficient profit to meet the business objectives

What skills do I need?

We are looking for someone who:

• has experience of working in senior roles in a business environment. A professional qualification, such as membership of the CIPD or an accountancy qualification, is desirable but is not a strict requirement of the role.
• is able to demonstrate strong communication and team-working skills in order to ensure the effective operation of the Business Board.
• has a collaborative approach and style that enables them to work successfully with others.
