This is a fantastic opportunity to join Shakespeare Junior School's governing body and to help to make a difference to the lives of children aged 7-11 living in Eastleigh.
Shakespeare Junior School is a large, diverse junior school in the Boyatt Wood area of Eastleigh, holding a 'Good' Ofsted rating.
We are looking for up to 3 committed and enthusiastic Co-opted Governors to join our Governing Body.
Being a School Governor is a rewarding voluntary role. You'll meet new people, work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team, and gain valuable insight and skills in strategic leadership, education, and governance.
What does the governing body do?
Our key responsibilities are to:
· Set and maintain the school's vision, ethos, and strategic direction.
· Support and challenge the Headteacher and other senior leaders in the school to ensure high performance, drive improvements in teaching and learning, and ensure best outcomes for children.
· Oversee finances to ensure resources are used effectively for the benefit of all pupils.
How much time do I need to commit?
The Governing Body currently runs on a 'flat' structure, with monthly Full Governing Body meetings (FGB). These are usually held on a Tuesday evening between 17:00 - 19:00 / 17:30 - 19:30, rotating between being online and in-person meetings at the school. We also aim to join a Senior Leadership meeting each half-term to meet with - and hear from - other members of the school's Senior Leadership Team. In addition to attending these meetings, there is an expectation that you would be able to undertake occasional monitoring and other visits to the school, during term-time.
You will therefore need to have access to a laptop or other device that you can access papers from and join meetings through.
What support will I receive?
You don't need prior experience - full training and support will be provided, both in-person and virtual training and e-learning. Through our SLA with Hampshire County Council, you will have access to excellent governor development opportunities to help you grow in confidence and impact.
Who can apply?
Anyone 18+ with an interest in education, community, and helping young people to succeed is welcome to apply. We value diverse perspectives and experiences that reflect our community. While there is no requirement to have a teaching background, we would very much welcome applications from current or former teachers. You do not need to have a child at the school or any other link to it.
If you think that you possess the skills that we need and you are ready to contribute your time and enthusiasm to help Shakespeare Junior School to continue to deliver a high quality education in a safe and supportive environment, we'd love to hear from you. We are more than happy to have an informal discussion with you about the role, before you formally commit.
We look forward to hearing from you!
