Growing Places Nursery and Community offers a warm welcome to all. If you enjoy meeting people, are friendly, sociable and outgoing then we would love to hear from you.

We run lots of different activities and projects to help our families and the wider community.

Alongside our busy Community Pantry, we offer a Drop in Coffee and Chat session on a Saturday, 10am-12pm. Grab a drink and a snack, meet new people, signpost to other organisations and possibly learn a new skill.

Our Community Pantry project enables local people to get more food for less. We work with local organisations and supermarkets to help reduce food waste and improve access to food.

Volunteer roles we are looking for are:

  • Community pantry/fridge volunteers
  • Delivery and collection volunteers
  • Event volunteers (including Christmas, craft, baking and activity helpers)
  • 'Second Bloom' clothing sale sorters and on the sale day volunteers

All roles are flexible, and volunteers can choose to help out regularly or on a more ad-hoc basis.

All roles are a great way to meet lots of new people and contribute to the wellbeing of our children and guests. We work with our local community closely, and these roles all help you to feel connected.

What skills do I need?

All roles are completely different, so we don't expect you to have all of these, but we would like to hear from anyone who has a few of these:

  • Ability to communicate and engage with others
  • Friendly, sociable and outgoing

PANTRY VOLUNTEER:

  • Supporting users with their weekly shop
  • Managing and updating stock on shelves
  • Signposting users to additional support
  • Collecting food donations
  • Engage with people who attend the pantry, without being intrusive

EVENT VOLUNTEER (we would like to hear from you if you are any of the following):

  • Enjoys baking at home or with a small number of others
  • Artistic and enjoys creating things
  • Likes working with children and families
  • Hands on and able to transform spaces with decorations
  • Would like to share their skill at one off events (craft, knitting, cooking, painting etc)
