Our charity, The Disabled Sailors Association, provides a hire service of dinghies and yachts to disabled sailors and disadvantaged people for recreational use in the Solent. Since 1996, the Charity has provided over 50,000 sailing places enabling disabled people (including those in wheelchairs) and their families to sail using our specially modified craft.
This role involves learning how to service, repair and maintain the Charity's dinghies and yachts and equipment.
The charity welcomes committed volunteers with an interest and passion for sailing who could help with the maintenance of the Charity's leisure craft. However, experience of boat maintenance is not essential as any new volunteer will receive supervision and training on each aspect of work at our locations in either Bridgemary and/or Port Solent.
The role would suit a young person interested in learning all about the maintenance of leisure craft as previous experience is not a requirement and the candidate will receive expert supervision, mentoring and training. There are also opportunities to become RYA qualified.
The role would also suit any one interested in sailing who has a passion for enabling disabled and disadvantaged people to experience the joy of the sport.
No skills required. However, enthusiasm, commitment and a passion to learn or apply the skills of boat maintenance are welcomed.
