We are growing an enthusiastic team of volunteers to help us care for Fort Brockhurst, ensuring it is clean, safe and presentable and who will deliver a warm and friendly welcome to visitors on the many open days, events and activities throughout the open season.

Fort Brockhurst is one of a number of forts built in the 1850s and 1860s to protect Portsmouth and its vital harbour against a French invasion. Largely unaltered, the keep, the parade ground, gun ramps, moated keep, washrooms and Armory can all be viewed.

What will I be doing?

• By becoming a member of the volunteer team for Fort Brockhurst, you will help English Heritage care and ensure that the Fort is safe and ready to open for our visitor's to enjoy!
• If you have a passion for history and storytelling you will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and bring to the life the story of Fort Brockhurst with visitors of all ages.
• You will also be supporting us in collecting donations and helping us maintain our second hand bookshop.
• As part of the team, you will also have the opportunity to help us with an exciting and varied programme of events that we host at the Fort which will bring the benefit of engaging the local community and spread awareness of our work as a charity at the Fort. 

Fort Brockhurst is open 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month April - October 11am-3pm with additional dates available as we host events.

Sessions are flexible and are open to discussion at any stage.

• Friendly and approachable to all visitors 
• A team player, who has a positive attitude to working with visitors to enhance their visit
• Volunteers in this role will have to stand for long periods/walk the site and will have to spend time outside
• Enjoy being hands on and helping with practical tasks
