We're currently looking for new advice volunteers to join our adviser training programme in September 2026, with opportunities available in our Wickham office. 

Our advice volunteers provide the backbone of our advice service, delivering advice and guidance to local people on a wide range of issues by phone, email or in person.

You’ll be joining a large team of other trained volunteers, alongside a friendly team of support staff and supervisors who make up the Citizens Advice Winchester District family. 

The role is hugely rewarding and although it can be challenging at times, you'll receive full training and ongoing support from our experienced volunteers and staff. 

Our training usually consists of nine weekly half-day classroom style sessions, half-day weekly observation sessions and some home learning.

Once you’ve completed your training, you’ll be expected to volunteer one day a week (or two half-day’s) for at least 12 months and undertake further training from time to time to further develop your advice skills.

What skills do I need?

No specific qualifications or past experience is required as full training is provided, though the following attributes would be beneficial: 

• a friendly and approachable manner.
  
• be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own.
  
• have good verbal and written communication skills.
  
• confident using computers and have basic IT skills.
  
• be able to understand sometimes complex information and explain it to others.

Due to the time and training we invest in each of our advice volunteers, we do ask that applicants are able to volunteer with us for at least one year once trained.
