Do you have some bookkeeping experience and 30 – 60 minutes a week to spare, flexibly, at home in your own time? Can you help Alton Climate Action Network and all its wonderful volunteer groups, to continue to thrive?

ACAN provides a banking service for its groups, paying their invoices and helping them to monitor their grant expenditure. The bookkeeper role is really important but not onerous, as the long-established spreadsheet-based system works well and the number of transactions is not large.

Alton Climate Action Network is a vibrant, very active network of groups and projects run by volunteers from across the community. It brings people in Alton and the surrounding villages together to take positive community action to reduce our impact on the planet and restore the natural environment.

Some of the groups under ACAN’s umbrella are autonomous, but several (such as Young ACAN, Cycle Alton, Alton Community Share, Alton Repair Café and others) rely on ACAN for banking and insurance cover, and support with fundraising for their work.

The ACAN Bookkeeper is supported by the ACAN Treasurer, Sarah Branch.

What skills do I need?

  • Reconciling the accounts spreadsheet with the Nat West online account so that the balances tally
  • Processing donations made via our Charities Aid Foundation website donation buttons
  • Tracking receipt of grants, allocating income to goups/projects and providing information for monitoring grants
  • Responding to requests from group/project leaders for details of their receipts and expenditure
