Help create meaningful connections for people affected by dementia.

Dementia Support Hampshire & IOW is looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Social Group Leader to help run one of our dementia-friendly community groups. Our groups provide a welcoming space where people living with dementia, their families and carers can meet others, enjoy activities, share experiences and build friendships.

As a Social Group Leader, you will work alongside volunteers and staff to welcome attendees, facilitate activities such as arts and crafts, reminiscence sessions, quizzes and cognitive stimulation games, encourage conversation and social interaction, and help create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment. You will play a key role in ensuring everyone feels valued, listened to and connected.

Every Thursday afternoon 1.30m-3.30pm

By volunteering just a few hours each month, you can make a real difference to the lives of local people living with dementia and help ensure nobody faces dementia alone.

What skills do I need?

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence leading and facilitating groups
  • A warm, friendly and approachable manner
  • Empathy, patience and understanding
  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to motivate and encourage participation
  • Experience of facilitating community groups, activities or events
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and support other volunteers
  • Reliability and commitment
  • An interest in improving the lives of people living with dementia

Previous experience of dementia is beneficial but not essential, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.
