Telephone Advisor

Could you help support parents and young people who contact our service?

As a Telephone Advisor you would be providing information and advice about special educational needs and disabilities.

Parents who contact us really appreciate the support our volunteers give. This is an interesting and rewarding role and you can choose to do as little or as much as you would like.

Main tasks:

• Make a follow up call to parents or young people who have contacted SENDIASS to discuss their concerns and questions
• Give parents general information and advice about special educational needs and disabilities related to education
• Refer parents and young people to SENDIASS permanent staff when more specialist advice or further support is needed
• Update records of cases on the database

What skills do I need?

• Strong verbal communication skills
• Ability to provide information in an impartial way
• Good at listening
• Capable of inputting information onto the database
• Tact/diplomacy and respect for confidentiality
• Ability to be objective, rational and have a balanced view on issues

Experience

• Previous experience of special educational needs is not required.
• A background in education, health or social care is useful, but a willingness to learn and an interest in SEND is essential.
