Emmaus Hampshire is looking for enthusiastic, dedicated and skilled individuals to join its Board of Trustees and steer its vital work.
About Emmaus Hampshire
We know that overcoming homelessness often means more than a roof over your head. That’s why Emmaus supports people to work their way out of homelessness, provides purpose as well as a stable home for as long as someone needs it. Over the past 16 years, Emmaus Hampshire has provided a unique solution to combat homelessness for over 120 Companions (residents), many of whom have complex needs.
We continue to grow, evolve and develop the Emmaus Community yet face many challenges which require a team effort to tackle. Emmaus Hampshire is an autonomous member of a federation of 28 Emmaus Communities in the UK and part of a worldwide movement.
In line with our strategic priorities, we are particularly interested in applications from people with skills and experience in the following areas:
· Fundraising
· Financial governance
· Housing law
· Community engagement
Your role as trustee
The Board of Trustees provides governance support, advice and direction to the executive team, enabling them to fulfill their responsibilities. As trustee you will:
· Help shape our strategy and ensure goals align with our vision.
· Provide governance and oversight, ensuring compliance and robust management.
· Volunteer your time (meetings are held five times a year) and potentially get involved in projects.
Have a say in the growth and development of our social enterprises and become part of the solution to help people in need.
What we’re looking for
· Commitment to the vision and values of the Emmaus movement
· Commitment to the development strategy of Emmaus Hampshire
· Strategic vision
· Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
· A strong understanding and commitment to overcoming the many challenges of homelessness
Time commitment
This is a voluntary, unpaid role. In normal circumstances, each year you will commit to an average of 2 days per month including attending 5 board meetings and the AGM, but greater involvement is welcomed. Board meetings are in the evenings to allow people who work during the day to attend.
