Volunteer Bosun Wanted: 2nd Fareham Sea Scouts

Do you love boats and enjoy keeping things shipshape? 2nd Fareham Sea Scouts are looking for a volunteer Bosun to help look after and maintain our fleet.

About the role
Our boats are at the heart of everything we do on the water. As Bosun, you would help keep them safe, seaworthy and ready for action, so that our young people can get afloat and enjoy their Scouting adventures.

What you would be doing

• Carrying out regular checks and routine maintenance on our boats, engines and equipment
• Keeping our boat store and kit tidy, organised and safe
• Spotting and reporting repairs, and fixing what you can
• Helping plan and organise the seasonal fit out and lay up
• Passing on practical skills to our young people where you are happy to, and getting them involved in caring for the boats

All volunteers are subject to Scouts' standard recruitment checks, including a DBS check, and we will cover the cost.

What skills do I need?

What we are looking for:

• Practical skills and a hands on approach, whether in boat repair, engineering, woodwork, fibreglass or general maintenance
• A good understanding of boat safety, or a willingness to learn
• Reliability and enthusiasm
• No Scouting experience is needed, and full training and support will be provided
