A ward activity volunteer improves the hospital experience by helping patients engage in conversation and in a range of activities during their stay. Assisting patients with individual activities at their bedside or lead activities for several patients within a bay or dayroom to help with their rehabilitation.

What's involved?

• Assisting patients who are identified to benefit from some company and participating in an activity. Activities can include board games, reading, word activities, neuro ball games, puzzles
• Encouraging patients to take part in activities at bedsides and in dayrooms when permitted
• Encouraging patients to carry out their independent exercise program
• Simple grooming assistance
• Cleaning of resources between patients
• You could be asked to observe the patients during a session noting how they are responding to activities

• Good listening & communication skills with the confidence to approach & communicate with people at all levels
• Be patient
• Friendly & approachable
• Ability to put people at ease
• You will need to have a caring, friendly, and outgoing attitude to all age groups
• Sense of humour
• Honest, trustworthy and reliable
