New Forest Young Carers supports children and young people from the age of 7 to 18, who have someone at home with a long-term illness or disability.
Our young people are scattered right across the New Forest, and often need transport to get to us. Sometimes we use mini buses - and we would love to hear from you if you would be willing to drive a bus for us occasionally. MiDAS training can be arranged.
But we also need people who would be willing to use their own cars to collect young people from home, bring them to our activity and then take them home afterwards. We would of course pay expenses/mileage and you would be welcome to stay for the activity if you wanted.
We’re also looking for volunteers to help out at activities – this could be anything from encouraging young people to join in with an arts workshop to supervising a lunch break or just being an extra pair of hands to pitch in. And if you have any skills or ideas that we could use for future activities, we’re always interested.
Driving and activity volunteering can be combined or kept separate - we have some volunteers who prefer to just drive and some who want to get involved and we welcome both.
This would be a flexible volunteering opportunity as our activity times vary. School holidays tend to be busier for us, but we also occasionally run sessions in the evening and at weekends. Due to demand, we are particularly keen to hear from potential volunteers in Totton and the Waterside.
For the driver role, you need to be patient, have a driving licence and insurance and be willing to drive children around.
For activity helper role, again you need to be patient, but also supportive and willing to get involved and join in.
