Who Are We?

Sussex Central Girlguiding has approximately 4000 members. We provide fun, challenges, and leadership for girls and young women through our Rainbow (age 4 - 7), Brownies (age 7 - 10), Guides (age 10 - 14), and Ranger (age 14 - 18) sections. Volunteers run weekly meetings and also give freely of their time to maintain the smooth running of the programme.

With guiding girls have fun, adventure and the space to discover their potential. They go to their first ever sleepover, canoe on rivers, learn about body confidence, and lead their own camp. Or sometimes they simply have fun and try new things with friends.


The Role:

We are looking for a volunteer to be our Treasurer. This position can be done working from home. There will be some meetings to attend.

You would need to have a Girlguiding DBS and reference carried out.

What skills do I need?

  • Maintenance of the County financial records in compliance with Girlguiding and Charities commission policies
  • Member of the County Executive, with attendance at meetings to present on finance related items
  • Member of the County finance committee, with attendance at meetings, providing a treasurers update
  • Prepare and agree the annual budget with the County Finance Committee
  • Point of escalation and support for Units / Districts / Divisions where financial issues arise
  • Obtaining annual audited accounts for each Division along with Finance certifications
  • Follow up of any issues arising in annual auditing / certification process within the divisions
  • Timely payment of expenses arising in the County Obtaining confirmations from the investment providers for inclusion in the quarterly / annual accounts as appropriate
  • Liaison with Girlguiding HQ on an investment related questions as they arise
  • Liaison with new areas related to County to ensure financial records are maintained e.g. Training / Camps or other activities and events
  • Obtaining annually audited accounts for the County for submission to the finance committee / Regional HQ Review of any finance new policies from Girlguiding HQ and support role out in the County Submission of the annual Charities Commission return by 31 October

This opportunity can be carried out whilst working from home.
