Who Are We?
Horsham Area Community Car Scheme offer a door to door service transporting elderly people to clubs, societies, doctors, hospitals, hairdressers, shopping and more!
The Role:
Drivers use their own vehicles to transport people from A to B. We cover the Horsham district and various Hospitals in Sussex and Surrey.
Some people use walkers or have a wheelchair which must be lightweight so some lifting may be required. Drivers receive a mileage allowance and can choose a day or days per week that they wish to work, normally the hours are 9am - 5pm.
Drivers may need to deal with charging clients for the booking. Most of our clients pay cash and may require change so the driver is required to calculate the mileage door to door.
An initial interview in person is necessary before agreeing acceptance of the volunteer. This is followed by a DBS application and another meeting to go through a handbook and discuss how the booking system works.
It is essential that all drivers undertake a DBS check which is paid for by the Scheme. A full driving licence must be held and Insurers must be advised of this activity, although normally there is no extra charge as it is purely voluntary charity work. Drivers must also have an eye test once a year.
This opportunity has no specific location e.g. can be carried out anywhere.
