1-to-1 Befriender

As a Befriender, you'll meet one on one with individuals in the community who are experiencing emotional challenges or social isolation. This may include those coping with bereavement, a recent health diagnosis, job loss or other major life changes.
Your role is to provide emotional support, companionship and a listening ear, helping people regain confidence and rebuild connections during a vulnerable time in their lives.
Responsibilities
- Offer short to medium term support through regular 1-to-1 meetings.
- Build trusting relationships and provide non-judgemental emotional support.
- Helps individuals feel heard, understood and less alone.
- Encourage engagement with the community and support networks where appropriate.
What skills do I need?
- Empathy, patience and excellent listening skills.
- Reliable and respectful of confidentiality.
- Ability to commit to regular weekly visits for a defined period.
- No prior experience is required - full training is provided.
