We are seeking new volunteer advisers to provide advice to clients by phone, email and face to face. Tasks include:

• Interviewing clients to explore their problems and identify how the service can best help them
• Providing clients with information and advice to help them resolve their problems
• Identifying options available to clients and helping them make an informed decision about what they want to do next
• Where appropriate, giving clients practical help - making phone calls, writing letters, or helping clients to complete certain forms
• Accurately recording all cases on our case recording system. This will enable us to offer a more efficient service if the client returns for further help
• Collecting information about different problems our clients have, and using them to inform our research and campaigning work
  

What skills do I need?

• be friendly and approachable
• be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own
• have good listening skills
• have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• have good maths and IT skills
• be able to understand information and explain it to others
• be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection
• be willing to undertake training in your role
