As a volunteer you would a visit school on a weekly basis and listen to children read in a 1:1 environment. On top of improving their reading skills, reading with a volunteer allows children to develop conversational and social skills as well as build their confidence.

More about Schoolreaders;
Schoolreaders is a literacy charity who aim to improve children's life chances by providing volunteers, for free, to give one-on-one reading practice to children in primary schools.
A large proportion of children leaving primary school are unable to read to the expected standard. One of the reasons is that children are not receiving enough one-on-one reading practice. Schoolreaders helps address this by providing volunteers to listen to children read in primary schools.
Please get in touch to find out more about the role and how you can get involved.
No qualifications are necessary to be a volunteer, just a good standard of spoken and written English and a couple of spare hours during the school day each week of the school year.
This opportunity has no specific location e.g. can be carried out anywhere.
