St. Mary Magdalene Church is a large, grade I listed church at the heart of the community in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Ranging from 12th to 17th century, the Church recently completed a 14 month Lottery Heritage funded reawakening project, St. Mary's has a renewed heritage offering telling the story of the community and its people through 800 years of history.
Working with community groups and leaders, the Reawakening project has opened up St. Mary's heritage in a way that it never has been before, with regular tours, as well as community heritage events, conservation projects and more.
We are looking for volunteers to join a new team running our social media presence.
As a social media volunteer you will help us curate a presence across multiple social media platforms to help us engage with and grow our audiences for our heritage events and more. An ideal opportunity to work in a modern and changing heritage environment, building a community as part of a brand new team.
Tasks might include:
Liaising with different teams and groups within the church to assess and organise their needs regarding social media advertising and posting.
Organising and prioritising what needs posting to which social media platform.
Curating engaging visual media either via design software such as Canva or photographs from the Church's digital photo archive.
Writing accompanying written social media posts to promote regular church operations, volunteering opportunities and events.
Using Publer to schedule and measure performance of social media posts.
Ensuring that social media posts adhere to all of the church's standards and practices regarding social media, safeguarding and data protection.
Applicants will be required to provide two references and may be required to undertake safeguarding training before commencing in the role
This role will suit someone with an interest in local history and/or the workings of the church and how that can be presented in an engaging way online.
This role will be of interest if you:
- Want to develop skills for a career in digital media.
- Have strong computer skills and IT literacy.
- Are interested in how historical sites engage with modern trends and technology.
Further relevant skills include:
- Knowledge of current social media trends and demographics.
- Knowledge and experience of using digital design suits like Canva.
