Purpose of Role:

A Street Outreach Volunteer Driver would assist our teams as they do early morning checks and interventions on the most vulnerable people sleeping rough in our city. You could be part of one of the most vital services Framework has to offer.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a volunteer with their own car and a full driver’s licence to assist staff in travelling in and around the city with ease, enabling them to reach more locations in a shorter time and therefore be there to support more people who are rough sleeping. This would involve driving two or more staff members to locations where they would interact with the service users. This role would NOT involve service users travelling in the vehicle or the volunteer directly interacting with service users (although there is a possibility of this in the future). It would require business insurance (this can be funded by Framework).

The role involves early-morning starts (shifts beginning as early as 6 am) in all weathers, so requires someone dedicated. A minimum commitment of one year is required, subject to passing a 3-month probationary period.

What skills do I need?

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential:

• A full driving licence and your own vehicle, capable of fitting at least three people and essential supplies such as drinking water, coats, emergency kits, etc

• Availability for at least one shift per week, fortnight, or every three weeks

• Willingness to work in all weathers, year-round

• Committed to the role for at least 12 months

• Reliable

Desirable:

• Experience of working with vulnerable people

• Knowledge of the circumstances that may lead to rough sleeping, and the issues that people who are rough sleeping may be facing

• Knowledge of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures

• Physical fitness, as the role may progress into assisting staff with the outreach work in person if desired

In return, you will be supported by your line manager in accessing training and development opportunities, including our “Volunteer Pathway” – a three-month course designed to support volunteers in moving into paid employment with Framework. You will be entitled to travel expenses, reimbursement for childcare or other care costs, and a lunch allowance if working over 4 hours.
