Purpose of role:
Our mission is to help people change the direction of their lives, grow as individuals, and live life to its full potential. We are an innovative and forward-thinking service, providing support and treatment to young people under the age of 25 who use, or are curious about drugs and alcohol. We take a harm reduction approach through open conversations about drugs, alcohol, and their effects, to reduce stigma and equip people with the knowledge to help keep themselves safe.
As a Young Adults Outreach Volunteer, you will use your understanding of nightlife and the nighttime economy, emerging drug trends and passion for harm reduction, to engage with people aged 16-24, who may be experiencing problems with drugs and alcohol. Working alongside our Outreach Workers, you will help create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere at our drop-ins and stalls within colleges, universities, student nights/unions, and health centres in Nottingham. You will play a key role in promoting the support available through our service, and engaging young people in non-judgemental conversations about drugs, alcohol, and harm reduction.
This role is ideal for confident and approachable individuals who enjoy meeting new people, are comfortable engaging with young adults from diverse backgrounds, and are passionate about harm reduction and nighttime culture. No two days are the same and you can really make a difference in helping to keep young people safe. You will receive training and regular 1-2-1 sessions with a named supervisor to support and develop you in your role.
Key Activities:
• Support staff to provide confidential, easily accessible, and non-judgmental information about drugs, alcohol and harm reduction advice
• Promote the support our service offers at drop-ins/stalls within colleges, universities, health centres, student nights, student unions and night clubs
• Promote how people can get in touch and receive support from us
• Help to create a warm and friendly atmosphere and engage young people in interactive activities at drop-ins/stalls
• Support staff with preparations for outreach activities e.g. setting up and packing away stall materials and displays
• Help staff to keep track of key themes from interactions with the young people and professionals
• Signpost people to other specialist support services where appropriate
• Raise concerns you are experiencing or that you have about others with staff as required, e.g. safeguarding
• Opportunities to contribute to service social media posts related to outreach
