To help audiences and visitors feel welcome, safe and well looked after before, during and after performances, films and events. Stewards are a visible and reassuring part of the Front of House team and assist with the smooth running of the venue.

Main duties:

 • Welcome customers and check or scan tickets at the entrance to the auditorium or event space 

• Help customers find their seats and provide information about venue facilities.

• Assist customers with access requirements and direct them to accessible routes and facilities.

• Keep entrances, aisles and emergency exits clear.

• Observe the auditorium and report any concerns, disruption, illness or safety issues promptly.

• Help latecomers enter at an appropriate point, following instructions from the person in charge.

• Assist with programmes, interval arrangements, audience movement and the orderly clearing of the venue.

• Follow instructions during an evacuation, medical incident or other emergency.

• Provide calm and courteous assistance when customers have questions or concerns.

• Help maintain a tidy, welcoming Front of House environment. 

Training and support: Volunteers will receive an appropriate induction, role-specific training and day-to-day guidance.

This may include:

• Venue layout, stewarding positions and audience procedures.

• Ticket checking and customer service.

• Accessibility and assisting customers with additional needs.

• Fire safety, evacuation, safeguarding and emergency arrangements.

• Warm, confident and approachable.

• Able to communicate clearly with a wide range of people.

• Reliable, attentive and comfortable standing for periods of time.

• Able to remain calm and follow instructions in busy or unexpected situations.

• Sensitive to the needs of older, disabled or vulnerable visitors.

• A good team member with a practical, helpful attitude.
