About us

Every day, the Mary Rose Museum receives hundreds of visitors. To make their visit as enjoyable as possible, we need passionate people of all ages to share their knowledge of Tudor history and our collection. Are you one of them?

The role 

The primary focus of the role is to ensure that each visitor is treated with excellent customer service and is given all the facts they need to know about the ship and collection. Interpretation volunteers are there to assist people during their visit; this could be general public, school groups, families and overseas visitors. Aside from historical information, volunteers man our handling tables, assist with way finding and general information giving, with regards to the museum.

Other activities may include

• Interacting with school groups and inspiring pupils and teachers.
• Ability to react to the museums needs and changing programme if necessary
• Orientating, supporting and managing groups of children in a busy museum setting
• Helping with events
• Conducting guided tours throughout the museum.
• Assisting with activities during school holidays

When? 

We need volunteers to help on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays and during the school holidays. 

Suitable for under 18s

What skills do I need?

• Able to work as part of a team
• Friendly nature with a good sense of humour
• You must be at least 16 years of age to apply
• Have an interest in the heritage sector
• An organised and methodical approach to work
• A genuine interest in the Mary Rose and its artefacts
• Good English language skills
• Willingness to learn
