About the role

Project Catalyst are looking to support self-identifying young women to train as Volunteer Consultants for PARCS on-going work in the local community, to disrupt victim-blaming and misogynistic cultural narratives of sexual abuse.

Volunteer Consultants are supported by the Project Catalyst Lead and a wider team of women, through consciousness raising groups and a feminist leadership programme.


What\'s involved?

  • Practicing co-production within a group setting
  • Understanding and practicing relational activism
  • Exploring feminist ideas through an intersectional approach
  • Regular meetings that focus on various subjects about sexual violence/victim blaming/sexual harassment/women’s safety work etc
  • Design and deliver campaigns
  • Speak on behalf of Project Catalyst at external events
  • Lead on influencing policy and practice around ending violence against women and girls
  • Volunteers will need to gain an understanding (appropriate to your role) of, and comply with, all relevant Family Action Policies and procedures.


The role would suit 

  • Between 18 – 26 years old and self-identify as a woman
  • We are particularly interested in hearing from BAME women, LBT women and women with disabilities who want support to influence the world around them
  • Have a commitment to a feminist ethos, interested in activism and/or intersectional feminism
  • Committed to equality and anti-discriminatory practice.
  • Compassionate
  • Able to develop appropriate relationships with people.
  • Women looking to influence local and national policy change around VAWG.
  • Anyone with an interest in/or studying/looking to study Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Teaching, or related course disciplines.
  • Anyone with an interest in or studying/looking to study creative courses i.e. Arts, Film, Photography with an interest in social justice
  • Those with an interest in education, social work, social action, and criminal justice
  • Women wanting to help and make change in the local community.
  • Women considering advocacy roles in the domestic abuse or sexual violence sector

Training and support you will receive 


·        We will provide a background DBS check prior to volunteering as well as offering additional training for all volunteers and a professional reference.

·        A contribution towards travelling expenses

·        Ongoing support

·        Training opportunities

·        The opportunity to join a team of experienced and qualified staff who have experience of providing support services to survivors of sexual abuse and rape. 


As a volunteer with Family Action, you will get:

·        Access to our standard e-learning package, giving you a great basic introduction to topics such as Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity.

·        Face-to-face training to ensure that you are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for this role.

·        Regular meetings with your supervisor to discuss any challenges you are facing, and celebrate your progress in the role.

         Ongoing support from your supervisor and the wider team.
