Are you able to give up some of your time to help enrich and shape the lives of young people in your local community?

We are seeking committed, professional individuals to join the governing body of Blackburn Central High School, a high‑performing secondary school within Oak Learning Partnership. This is a rewarding opportunity to put your skills, experience and enthusiasm to meaningful use — helping to ensure the very best outcomes for our students.

Who are we looking for?

You do not need experience in education. What matters most is:

  • A genuine interest in improving young people’s lives
  • A willingness to ask questions, provide challenge and support, and work collaboratively
  • A commitment to our school’s values and community

We particularly welcome individuals with experience in areas such as leadership, safeguarding, or organisational governance — but this is not essential.

What does the role involve?

  • Attending 3–4 governing body meetings per year
  • Reading papers in advance and contributing to strategic discussions
  • Supporting and challenging school leaders to drive improvement
  • Acting as a critical friend to the school

What support will you receive?

  • Full induction and ongoing training
  • Support from experienced governors, school leaders and the Trust governance team
  • Opportunities to develop your leadership, strategic thinking and governance skills

Why become a governor?

  • Make a real, lasting difference to the lives of young people
  • Give back to your local community
  • Gain valuable experience in governance, strategy and decision‑making
  • Be part of a supportive, purpose‑driven team

Your experience could help shape futures.

What skills do I need?

A genuine interest in improving young people’s lives

A willingness to ask questions, provide challenge and support, and work collaboratively
