Currently as a club, we offer four activities a week. These include strength and conditioning, goalball, blind football and blind baseball.

The sport we’re in the most need of help with is goalball due to the setting up of the court and goals needed for that sport. Goalball is a sport designed specifically for blind people and is played three a side on a volleyball sized court.

Goalball requires us to tape string down on to the sports hall floor so blind players can have a tactile way of knowing their position on the court by feeling the string on the floor. The goals are also specialist because they’re 9m wide so we have to assemble and disassemble them each week.

Goalball takes place every Tuesday at Pleckgate High School’s Sports Hall from 6.30pm to 9pm. We do get access from 6pm onwards for set-up but session officially starts at 6.30.  We appreciate you may not be able to dedicate your time to the full session, but even if you’re able to come at the start of the session to help us set everything up then this would be of huge help to us.

Don’t worry, we can show you and guide you through what to do.

Once the court is set-up you could stay for the session or leave.

For most of our sports, we often need help guiding blind players in from taxis/cars into the building, bringing them into the sports hall, setting up the equipment and then once the session starts, it’s a case of collecting the ball when it goes out of play or keeping track of time on a stopwatch for the length of a game.

For blind baseball, we’re not in need of volunteers because it doesn’t require a lot of equipment or setting up.

Blind football is a new sport we’re offering but we do need a sighted person to assist with making sure everyone is safe as sometimes due to lack of coaches, we rely on visually impaired coaches.

Blackburn Blind Sports Club’s weekly timetable: Every Monday 6.30pm to 7.30pm Strength & Conditioning at East Lancashire Cricket Club.

Every Tuesday 6.30pm to 9pmGoalball at Pleckgate High School. Every Wednesday 7pm to 8pm Blind Football at Soccer Dome. Every Friday 5.30pm to 7.30pm Blind Baseball at Soccer Dome. The club where vision has no limits #blind

What skills do I need?

No skills needed as you’ll be shown how to help.
