Every young person we work with is supported by a 1:1 volunteer Surf Mentor. You will be matched up with one of our young surfers and for the duration of their six-week Surf Therapy course you will be their buddy in and out of the water, helping them learn to surf, offering support and encouragement, and most importantly having fun together! Our Surf Therapy sessions are two hours long and take place from April to October from Southwick Beach on Saturdays and Sundays. We also run a Surf Club on weekday evenings for young people who have completed their Surf Therapy course. Our volunteers receive online and in-person training before getting in the water, and we have a buddying system for new volunteers so that you will be fully supported in the role. We have a very friendly team of experienced and newer volunteers with a great community feel. If you would prefer to stay dry we are also looking for help with photography, social media, networking, fundraising, events…

What skills do I need?

Surf Mentors don\\\\\\\'t need to know how to surf! You should be comfortable with being in the sea and willing to offer non-judgemental support to vulnerable young people, however training will be provided. We are not therapists - our sessions are all about having fun in the sea, learning new skills and joining a welcoming, supportive group.
