Inspire Young Minds – Become a Unit Leader with Girlguiding Staines

Are you passionate about helping young people grow in confidence, learn new skills and have fun? Join Girlguiding Staines District as a Unit Leader and play a vital role in creating safe, engaging spaces for girls to thrive.

This rewarding volunteer opportunity is open to women and men aged 18 and over, and is ideal for anyone looking to support their local community while gaining experience working with children and young people. As a Unit Leader, you'll support the running of a local Girlguiding unit (Rainbows, Brownies, Guides or Rangers) in a way that suits your availability and interests.

You’ll be part of a friendly team and contribute to a variety of tasks, such as:

  • Working with small groups of girls during weekly sessions
  • Assisting with unit admin, including registers and attendance records
  • Helping maintain simple financial records for the unit
  • Supporting a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for all members
  • Encouraging girls as they take part in games, badges, and activities.

No previous experience is needed – just enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to get involved. All Unit Leaders must complete Girlguiding recruitment checks and agree to follow the organisation’s policies and safeguarding guidelines.

As a registered adult member of Girlguiding, you’ll receive:

  • A membership badge and access to the adult clothing range
  • A subscription to Guiding Magazine
  • The opportunity (for women) to make the Girlguiding Promise
  • Support, friendship, and ongoing development opportunities within the organisation.

What skills do I need?

This role is a brilliant chance to build a variety of practical and interpersonal skills:

  • Teamwork and communication – working closely with young people and adult leaders
  • Organisation and record-keeping – supporting simple admin and planning tasks
  • Child safeguarding and safety awareness – helping create a secure environment
  • Leadership and mentoring – encouraging girls to try new things and build confidence
  • Community engagement – being a valued part of a local support network.

Whether you're looking to give back, gain experience, or simply enjoy working with young people, this role offers connection, fulfilment, and fun.
