Swim Buddy Volunteer – SeeAbility

Do you love swimming, being active, and helping others build confidence and have fun?

Join Seeability as a Swim Buddy Volunteer and support people with learning disabilities, autism, and sight loss to enjoy swimming and water-based activities.

This role could involve supporting sessions in a 25m swimming pool or in a hydrotherapy pool.

Helping people feel safe, relaxed, and included while having fun in the water.

What You Will Be Doing As a Swim Buddy Volunteer?

You will support people we support to enjoy swimming sessions and water activities in a friendly and encouraging environment.

  •   Providing companionship, reassurance, and motivation
  •   Helping create a calm, positive, and fun experience
  •   Sharing conversation, laughter, and achievements together
  •   Supporting people to stay active and enjoy new experiences

You will always work alongside SeeAbility staff and follow guidance to ensure everyone feels safe and supported

The Difference You Will Make:

  • Swimming can boost confidence, improve wellbeing, reduce anxiety, and create opportunities for fun and social connection.

Your support could help someone:

  • Feel more confident in the water
  • Stay active and healthy
  • Reduce stress and build relaxation
  • Enjoy social interaction and friendship
  • Feel included, supported, and encouraged
  • Sometimes, having a supportive swim buddy can make all the difference in helping someone try something new and        enjoy themselves.

What skills do I need?

We are looking for volunteers who are:

• Friendly, patient, and reliable

• Empathic, understanding, and encouraging

• Confident swimmers and comfortable in the water

• Positive and enthusiastic

• Comfortable supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, and sight loss
