Volunteer Keyboard Player – Music & sing along Group 

Location: Staines Community Centre, Staines-upon-Thames

Frequency: Every other week

Session length: Approximately 1 hour

About the opportunity 

Staines Community Centre is looking for a friendly and enthusiastic volunteer keyboard/piano player to help us start a new Music  and Sing-Along Group for our community members. 

The group will meet every other week and will provide an enjoyable opportunity for people to come together, sing familiar songs and enjoy music in a relaxed and welcoming environment. 

We are particularly interested in someone who enjoys playing well-known songs and would be happy to accompany a group of people singing along.

What would you do? 

- Play the Centre's keyboard to accompany group singing.

- Help create a relaxed, friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.

- Play a selection of familiar and popular songs from different eras.

- Take song requests and, where possible, involve participants in choosing the music.

- Encourage everyone to join in, regardless of their singing ability.

- Occasionally introduce songs and share interesting facts or memories about the music.

- Help make the sessions welcoming and inclusive.

No previous experience of running a community group is required — just a love of music, a willingness to play and an enthusiasm for bringing people together.

What skills do I need?

Who are we looking for? 

You don't need to be a professional musician or qualified music teacher. We are looking for someone who: 

- Can confidently play the keyboard or piano.

- Enjoys a wide range of popular and traditional music.

- Is comfortable accompanying people singing together.

- Is friendly, patient and approachable.

- Enjoys working with older people and bringing people together.

- Is reliable and able to commit to attending sessions every other week.

- Understands that the aim is participation and enjoyment rather than musical perfection. 

What difference could you make? 

Music can bring people together, encourage participation and create opportunities for conversation and connection. Familiar songs can also bring back memories and experiences from different stages of people's lives.
