As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer is responsible for ensuring that effective financial controls and procedures are in place and for regular reporting to the Board on the organisation’s financial health.

Volunteers are at the heart of the Citizens Advice service, and we could not provide the service we do without them. The majority of our Charity's impact comes from our wonderful team of volunteers throughout the organisation, including the Trustee Board.

The Treasurer’s Role The Treasurer role involves around 2 days work per month as a volunteer supporting and reviewing the work of the in-house finance team as well as producing regular quarterly reports for the Board. Strong and efficient governance, based on a Trustee Board with a wide range of skills is essential to our Charity's ongoing work and allows us to continue to make a difference to people's lives.

The Treasurer helps lead and guide our progress, working with the Chief Executive, Chair and other Trustees to deliver our strategic plan and change agenda.

What skills do I need?

We are looking for proactive individuals who are willing to be engaged in the objectives of Citizens Advice work.

Essential • Experience/skills in Finance, probably including a recognised accounting qualification. • Ability to lead and explain financial information. • Willingness to actively participate in discussions concerning needs of Charity’s volunteers, staff and the Trustee Board. • Willingness to act in the best interests of the Charity. • Sound, independent judgement and ability to think creatively. • Working effectively as a team member and demonstrating a willingness to learn and develop.

Desirable • Experience in the charitable or voluntary sector. • Experience of charity law and governance.

Whether you are an experienced Trustee or wanting to take your first step at a Trustee, we would like to hear from you. You should be prepared to attend 5 Board meetings a year, usually on a Monday evening from 5.30pm to 7.00pm together with some additional meetings with the finance team, some additional reading time and occasional support for the Chief Executive on specific projects. All new Trustees receive induction and ongoing training and we will cover of out-of-pocket expenses (e.g. travel or child-care).
