What does DiscoverME offer?

DiscoverME is the recovery college for young people aged 16 to 25 in North Tyneside. It offers a safe and supportive space for young people to come and learn new skills, engage in positive experiences, and make new friends! DiscoverME’s overall aim is to empower young people to better understand themselves and their own health. We will offer a variety of free activities and sessions such as arts and crafts, music, gaming, sports and more.  

DiscoverMe Volunteer What this role will involve: 

Are you interested in volunteering? Perhaps your interested in co-facilitating but not quite ready yet? Join us as a volunteer to gain skills and confidence. This role includes:

• Being part of the planning and preparation prior to a session being delivered. I.e. supporting setting up and tidying up of a session

• Supporting staff to deliver a session including activities and ice breakers

• Ensuring there is a welcoming atmosphere for all young people attending DiscoverMe

• Focus on areas of development you wish to work on i.e. leadership, teamwork, working towards co-facilitating, if you wish to do so

• Attending discussion groups and volunteer meetings 

• 1:1 support from staff to establish your goals and interests

Who can volunteer? 

• Any young person aged 16-25 years old 

• No experience/skills/qualifications required

• DBS Check (carried out by VODA, especially for those co-facilitating sessions)

What DiscoverME will provide to you as a volunteer: 

• VODA Volunteer training.

• DiscoverMe specific training

• Ongoing support from staff

• Learn new skills to put onto your CV

• Opportunities to develop

• Travel Expenses (receipts for bus/metro/millage must be kept in order to reimburse)

• Opportunity to meet other volunteers and young people your ag

• Regular social “meet ups” to ensure our volunteers are rewarded for their hard work!

• All volunteers will be covered by VODA’s policies and procedures

What skills do I need?

We are looking for young people aged 16-25 who are passionate about working with young people, making a difference and want to support the mental health and wellbeing of others.

No prior experience is necessary to volunteer with us
