What are we looking for?

We are seeking a reliable and proactive Volunteer Handyperson/Caretaker to assist with the general upkeep and maintenance of our centre. This is a flexible role that will support the smooth operation of the centre by ensuring all facilities and external areas are well-maintained, presentable, and ready for use. If you enjoy working with your hands, have a keen eye for detail, and are happy to lend a helping hand where needed, we'd love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform light maintenance tasks (e.g., minor repairs, replacing light bulbs, fixing door handles).
  • Regularly check that all facilities (kitchen, bathrooms, meeting rooms) are in working order.
  • Upkeep of the Centre
  • Ensure all indoor areas are clean, organized, and ready for users.
  • Carry out basic cleaning and tidying when needed.
  • Ensure all centre furniture, equipment, and utilities are maintained.
  • Tidying of Outdoor Areas
  • Regularly clean and tidy external areas such as gardens, walkways, and parking spaces.
  • Carry out seasonal tasks such as sweeping leaves, clearing pathways, and basic garden upkeep.

Liaising with External Contractors

  • Coordinate with external contractors for repairs and maintenance that require professional services (e.g., electricians, plumbers).
  • Ensure all works are completed to a high standard and align with the centre's needs.

Set-Up and Clear-Away for Hirers

  • Assist with setting up rooms and equipment for hirers based on their specific requirements (e.g., tables, chairs, projectors).
  • Clear away and store equipment after hirers have finished using the space.

Ad-Hoc Work

  • Carry out other general tasks as needed to support the smooth running of the centre.

Benefits

  • Flexible hours to fit around your schedule.
  • The opportunity to be part of a vibrant community and make a positive impact.
  • Get experience in facilities management and general maintenance

What skills do I need?

  • Basic Handyperson skills (e.g., DIY, minor repairs).
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Good communication skills, particularly when liaising with contractors and centre users.
  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate centre needs (including evenings and weekends).
  • Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to the role.
