Help Care for Conservation Grazing Animals

Would you like to support nature conservation while enjoying time outdoors? We are looking for volunteer Grazing Checkers to help monitor our conservation grazing animals and ensure their welfare.

This rewarding role plays an important part in helping maintain local heathland habitats while supporting the wellbeing of the animals.

As a Volunteer Grazing Checker, you will observe the animals to ensure they appear healthy and behaving normally, check water supplies and mineral licks, inspect fences, gates and signs for damage, remove any litter, and report any concerns to the Grazing Team. Volunteers also update the WhatsApp group after each visit to confirm checks have been completed.

This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, support local wildlife conservation, and help ensure the welfare of grazing animals.

No specialist experience is required. Guidance, health indicators and contact details will be provided.

Commitment:  There will be 2 slots per day (anytime between 7am – 1pm & 2-8pm), 7 days a week. This is a temporary role as the cattle will probably only be on there for 2 months.

Location: Smarts Heath

Supported by: Downlands Grazing Team & Surrey Heathland Partnership
